2014

Atlantic American Corporation acquires Direct Life Insurance Company (DLIC), formerly a non-active subsidiary of Direct General Insurance Company. With the acquisition, DLIC’s name is changed to Bankers Fidelity Assurance Company. The acquisition allows Bankers Fidelity greater diversification of products and pricing in 14 states where Bankers Fidelity Assurance Company holds licenses. This also opens the door to future expansion opportunities.

2013

On February 7, Atlantic American says goodbye to J. Mack Robinson, but his legacy continues to inspire the highest levels of integrity — both in the way we conduct our business and in our personal lives. Through his 60+ years as a businessman, Mr. Robinson gained the admiration and respect of everyone with whom he came in contact. We are honored to have been led by such a generous, humble and remarkable man.

2010

xCalibre Risk Services, Inc. becomes a new subsidiary of Atlantic American Corporation. Even though Atlantic American is relatively young by insurance industry standards, our current group of companies represents nearly 200 years of cumulative experience.

2008

Atlantic American sells Georgia Casualty, Association Casualty and Association Risk Management to Columbia Mutual Insurance Co. of Columbia, Missouri, part of the Columbia Insurance Group.

2005

Bankers Fidelity officially reorganizes and forms a group worksite division for brokers, employers, and their employees.

1999

American Independent Life Insurance Company merged with Bankers Fidelity. Texas-based Association Casualty Insurance Company and Association Risk Management General Agency are acquired.

1997

Atlantic American Corp acquired American Independent Life Insurance Company. Atlantic American Life and Bankers Fidelity merge with Bankers Fidelity as the surviving company. Also, Self-Insurance Administrators, Inc., an Atlanta-based, third-party administrator of self-insured companies and public organizations, is acquired by the Corporation.

1995

Atlantic American acquires American Southern Insurance and its wholly owned subsidiary, American Safety Insurance Company.

1985

Atlantic American Corporation announces a total corporate income of over $94 million. Total assets are reported at over $200 million. For the third straight year, Forbes Magazine lists the Corporation as one of “The Best Small Companies in America.”

1975

Atlantic American Corporation’s growth continues as it acquires Bankers Fidelity, a life and health company first incorporated in June 1955.

1971

Atlantic American, through its life and health subsidiary, enters the worksite marketplace by issuing its first payroll deducted group whole life policy to a commercial printer in Georgia.

1970

Atlantic American Life Insurance Company becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of the Corporation. J. Mack Robinson, a prominent entrepreneur, businessman and philanthropist, purchases Atlantic American Corporation in 1974. Under Mr. Robinson’s leadership, acquisitions and mergers help to shape the future of the Corporation.

1968

Atlantic American Corporation, a publicly traded entity, is formed for the purpose of holding the stock of four Georgia corporations, including Georgia Casualty & Surety.

1962

Atlantic American Life Insurance Company is formed through the merger of Atlantic National Life and Universal American.

1947

Messrs, Dilbeck and Dominey, along with five other employees, form Georgia Casualty & Surety Company.
 

Atlantic American’s roots reach back to 1937 and the founding of the Dilbeck and Dominey Insurance Agency. That agency soon became one of the largest underwriters of workers’ compensation insurance in the state of Georgia.
